SKZNBA Champs a Success

Southern KZNBA held its annual provincial champs last Sunday at Lucien Beach. Competitors came from as far as Durban to make up one of the most well attended SN Champs in years. The conditions were trying in the morning with the low tide, which saw a lot of entrants battling to find high scoring rides on the shifting peaks on the outside. By lunchtime the tide had come in and the inside waves started getting much better. As expected, some high risk manoeuvres were executed and competition was fierce. Clear standouts at the event were Wayne Beekman in the Mens division with and exact replica of his SA Champs win over Martin Otto. Emile von Vollenhoven racked up some serious scores to take top spot in the Juniors and Inacio Serrao convincingly won the Dropknee Division. The Pro division was nothing short of spectacular with twins Neil and Wayne Smith going head to head. This time round Wayne turned out to be the victor. Competitors also had the opportunity to test some of the new Rheopaipo Bodyboards that have hit the SA market and many found the boards quite to their liking.
