Canary Islands, Atlantic Ocean
Waiting Period: Sunday December 12 to Tuesday December 21
Saturday December 18 2010 Gran Canary Island : Two of bodyboarding's legends, Mike Stewart and Guilherme Tamega, showed up in the small village of La Guancha for today's Red Bull daily video clip update. Producers and editors were pushing for the two to spice up some of the competitive rivalry that have between them for the camera. But what happened during the first take, even the sitcom writers of NBC couldn't have come up with it. Instead of going with what was already know, long standing competitive rivalry, the two combined into once force and called out the the rest of the competitive field! “We gotta go bigger than them,” says Guilherme.
Mike answers back, in his calm and strategic demeanor, “that's right.”
So it's on people. Get ready to see the best of the best throw down at the El Fronton Invitational.
Swell chart watcher, Seamus Makim, has put a spike in the road to the most anticipated event in bodyboarding history. He mentioned that there is a small chance that Tuesday, not Monday, could be the day. But with the satellite production crew needing at least a certain amount of hours notice, the absolute 100% confirmation will come in tomorrow's video daily update on redbull.com. Be sure to watch!
Now that the time is getting near, the 'personal space' of each competitor is getting larger. Focus and visualization of riding has been seen on many of the rider's faces. We are not mind reader's here but we can assure you that when the time comes, all their thoughts, all their feelings and all their anxieties will get flushed out once they hit the water for what Tamega is quoted as saying, “the El Fronton Invitational is the biggest contest ever.” No one will disagree once the first ever champion of El Fronton is crowned at the end of the day.
No matter if the big day is, Monday or Tuesday, we're looking at a start time of 9:45am GMT. We have a few friends out there that still are trying to figure out the concept of times zones. So for them, and if you need help, we've put together a time chart with corresponding times in relations to the time here in the Canary Island.
You will find that chart on the IBAworldtour.com website. Now, you don't have an excuse. Change out those batteries in your alarm clock and get ready for “the best contest ever.”
2010 Wild Wild Wave El Fronton Invitational is being brought to you by Maldito Rodriguez and Red Bull Media House.
