On the 25th October 2003 a bodyboarding contest of significance took place at Oceanside's Tyson Street. Finally an event for the true bodyboarder. No more judging criteria where the rider is forced to perform forced manoeuvres to get the scores needed to win. This event penalized the person trying to milk their wave for all it had and rewarded the riders trying to use the wave in a way that the best manoeuvre could be performed. I believe a standard has been set and now the rest of the contest tours need to step up to the new criteria. As Brandon Foster quoted in the contest briefing, "I started bodyboarding because of the one big maneuver per wave style of riding and this is what I believe is wrong with bodyboarding today, that we have gone away from that form of riding. That is why I am putting on this event that finally rewards you for riding stylishly and penalizes you for grovelling."
The event attracted many sponsors who nearly all showed up to represent in the mist of the Oceanside Military parade that nearly closed down the whole of Oceanside that day. The crowd, turn out for the contest was great too with riders venturing all the way from Imperial beach and San Luis Obispo to Oceanside for this event. Unfortunately the waves were pretty small but the contestants made the best of it still managing to surf each heat as if it were an expression session. Many of the events competitors were first time competitors and impressed many of the judges with their riding ability too. As the day progressed we had DJ False1 from New York spinning hip hop tracks and DJ Adam from Oceanside spinning drum and bass to amp the riders and spectators. Ray Machado, Brandon Foster and Charlton Foster graced the mike and kept the competitors and crowds informed on each rider in the water, contest rules and contests going on through-out the day. The pros also showed up with guest appearance by Spencer Skipper, Nelz Vellicido, Kyle Maligro, Lil Todd Glazier, Tyler Wieman, Raffi Meyer, Rusty Friesen, Jose Rutherford and Trevor Ellis.
After all the heats were judged and hundreds of prizes given away to the spectators, judges and Team Action Beach riders David Rodriguez, Timmy Schulz and Chad Delanzo voted the rider they believed to be the most aggressive rider in the contest being Bob Kithcart. We then started the awards ceremonies and prize give aways that entitled everyone that entered to win a prize. In the end everyone had a great day and we would love to thanks all our sponsors who made it possible, ODB World Tour, Action Beach Surf Shop, Custom X Bodyboards, Coors Beer, Roucken Clothing, One Apparel, No 6 Bodyboards, Cartel Bodyboards, T&C Bodyboards, Toobs Bodyboards, BZ Bodyboards, Vortex Bodyboards, Bully's Leashes, No Friends Video's and Clothing, Manta Bodyboards, Stardumb Clothing, XM Leashes, Hydro Fins, Nuisance Leashes, Redley Fins, Viper Fins, Rot Magazine, OAI Magazine, Crysis Magazine, Option Magazine, H2O Odyssey, Prudential Real Estate, Bink Clothing, Outa Nowhere Clothing and Dudebro.net .
