Wedge Classic 2013: Day One

The
Wedge Classic 2013 kicked off today in Plettenberg Bay
with 2ft contestable waves and a light offshore, but conditions improved
steadily as the day went on and the heats got hotter and hotter.The action on the beach was pumping with the Red Bull crew
setting up their Chill-Out Lounge and Spinning Station, and playing great
tunes. The Wedge promo girls ensured that there was always something happening
on the beach.
The day started off with the boys round one, followed by the
Pros first round where some of the biggest names in South African bodyboarding,
including 2011 South African champion Storm Prestwich and 2012 South African
champion Tristan Roberts, pleased the crowds with their slick aerial moves. The
Pro division also completed Round Two, much to excitement of those on the beach
and will now move into a Man on Man contest for the rest of the event. A Man on
Man contest usually only occurs at the Wedge Classic on the South African
Bodyboarding circuit and should prove really exciting for spectators and ensure
that riders bring their best to every single heat. The Juniors, Mens and DK Round One were also held today.
The Wedge Classic's local "Face of the Wedge", Niklas Martin,
did very well today advancing through to the Man on Man quarter finals in the
Pros division and the semi finals in the Junior division. More to look forward
to are the popular Synchronised Bodyboarding, where groms get to surf in pairs
with their heroes, and the Born in Africa Bodyboarding Development Clinic!
Heat Sheets for the remainder of the contest below. With
such competition, especially in the Pros, DK and Junior division, the Plett
