2005 SA Junior bodyboarding champ and current SABA junior champ Jared Houston has just signed up with ATD bodyboards (probably much to the dismay of his rivals). Jared is already well known to the South Africa bodyboarding community as one of the most talented young riders in the country, with a freakish ability and smooth style beyond his years.
Not only has Jared done exceptionally well in the junior division of SABA for the last couple years, but he has also rattled the cage of the pro division a few times, with a 5th place in the Cave Rock Gladiator Pit last year, competing against most of the best guys in the country.
Look for some pretty big things from this guy in the near future – the fact that he is now riding turbocharged equipment means he's going be even more dangerous in the water than ever before.
Also new to the team is Jaymie Jones from Australia, a young up and comer with heaps of potential – and like so many groms from oz, he surfs with great style and flair. The team updates to ATD can be viewed on www.atdbodyboards.com under the team page.
And lastly one more big news item from ATD – we are now selling our boards at wholesale, for a variety of different reasons. The decision was not an attempt to bar the surf shops; rather the impetus behind the decision was that ATD boards are distinctly different from other bodyboards – the X-Cell core, while offering unreal performance and durability, requires a long and complicated laminating process that is not suited to mass production. So it just makes sense for us to make the boards with the care they demand, and make each and every one an exercise in perfection. For us to make and sell them at a reasonable price and retail them through the surf shops would have the boards selling at about R1700 – out of reach for many bodyboarders that aspire to owning the best equipment money can buy, without having to win the lottery first.
So we are going to be selling them direct for R950 each, which includes ATD grips and free delivery in South Africa. Custom boards now start at R1100, which includes ATD grips and free delivery in SA. The boards will also be available from www.factory7.co.za at the new prices, and ATD is proud to be associated with a core bodyboard company that is run by bodyboarders for bodyboarders.
